Things to do in Peterborough – Carling Cup Third Round Draw

In most seasons the third round usually throws up some good contests and this year is no different with some interesting games due to be played this week. The pick of the third round draw is undoubtedly the north London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. These teams would have probably been looking for an easier third round tie, although the match will provide both sets of fans with a chance to gain early season bragging rights over their closest rivals. Both teams picked up decent wins at the third round stage last year with Tottenham’s 5-1 away victory over Preston being particularly impressive. Things to do in peterborough – Arsenal has started the current season in excellent form, although they will likely be disappointed with their weekend league game where they dropped points in a draw with Sunderland. Spurs on the other hand had a good 3-1 home victory over Wolves. Both teams are playing well and this should make for an exciting cup game. Spurs will look to take advantage of being the home team but Arsenal is in good form and will be difficult to beat. This one could go to extra time to be decided, although with the form they have shown so far this season Arsenal will likely enter the game as the slight favorites to take the win.

Things to do in peterborough – Another all Premier League clash that came out of the hat for the third round sees Chelsea play host to Newcastle.

Chelsea has been in devastating form at the start of the season and is scoring goals for fun while conceding very few. They had had some impressive early season victories in both the Premier League and Champions League and will be looking to carry this into the Carling Cup. Newcastle has had a mixed start to the season, although they had a decent away win at Everton at the weekend to move them up the table. Newcastle exited the Carling Cup at the third round stage last year when they lost 2-0 at Peterborough and with a trip to Stamford Bridge to contend with the chances are that they will be on the end of another third round defeat. Things to do in Peterborough, Manchester United are on their travels in midweek and they face up against Scunthorpe from the Championship. Scunthorpe made it through the third round in last year’s competition when they defeated Port Vale 2-0, although a game against Manchester United is a different proposition. United have not fired on all cylinders at the start of the current season and have dropped behind Chelsea in the league. However, Scunthorpe themselves have had a mixed start to the season and sit mid-table in the Championship. As the defending champions, United will want to put on a good performance and they should have enough to take them to victory in this game.
